Let me set the scene.
You are at home, you don't feel like going to the gym, but you have no weights at home.
No problem!
Bodyweight movements are a great way to get a killer workout in no time. Being able to control your own bodyweight is a measure of something called relative strength. How strong you are for your bodyweight. Having good relative strength, along with balance and coordination is essential when starting to engage externally loaded movements, such as weight training.
So what would a bodyweight training session look like?
You could start out with a quick 30sec-1min jog just to get the blood flowing and increase your heart rate.
The you could do the following:
10 Jumping Jacks
10 Push-ups
10 Squats
10 Lunges
10 Sit-ups
10 Mountain Climbers
Go through that one time! It is much more difficult than it looks. If you have more energy, do it again, but this time, try to do it faster than you did it before.
Get creative! Make your own routines by adding different exercises and changing the number of repetitions. Would you like more of a challenge? Fill 2-2 liter soda bottles with water and hold them while performing the squats or lunges.
Or, another way you can increase the intensity is to put some books into a book bag and put it on your back. You can wear this weighted book bag throughout your entire workout!
