Interview With Bodybuilder Victor Delcampo

1) CRITICAL BENCH: Victor, welcome to Critical Bench! Can you tell Critical Bench readers about yourself!

I am a personal trainer in Delaware. I also compete nationally for the NPC. I am 30 years old and have been competing since I was 22. I have been working out since I was 12.

2) CRITICAL BENCH: How did you get started in bodybuilding?

I always wanted to be a bodybuilder. I just didn't realize I could do it. I had been lifting like a bodybuilder for a while when I was approached by another bodybuilder about doing a show. I did it, won it, and the rest is history.

3) CRITICAL BENCH: Give us your training routine. What is your program for all muscle groups! Tell us about your cardio routine and your diet!

I do cardio first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. All I do is walk on a treadmill for 30-45 min on an incline.

Here is an example of a diet I might follow:

Interview with Bodybuilder Victor Delcampo Meal 1
7 egg whites
1 wholeegg
1/2 cup of oats

Meal 2
1 cup of cooked brown rice
6 ounces of chicken

Meal 3
1 cup of cooked brown rice
6 ounces of chicken

Meal 4 - Post Workout
1/2 cup of oats
1/2 ounce of raisins (small box)
60 grams pro-complex

Meal 5
6 ounces of chicken
or
60 grams pro-complex

Meal 6
60 grams pro-complex

My workouts are basic weider principle 12 set per body part once a week.

4) CRITICAL BENCH: What message would you like to give all those who would like to pursue bodybuilding?

It takes a lot of hard work and there are no short cuts. Just days that make weeks that make months that make years of intense training.

5) CRITICAL BENCH: What adversities have you had to overcome?

I tore my ACL and had it replaced and tendonitis in the other. Money can be an issue when you compete at my level as the contests are not local.

6) CRITICAL BENCH: What are your favorite exercises and how did you get so huge and ripped?

I love to train shoulders, back and chest. I don't have a favorite exercise. I got so huge and ripped because when all friends quit working out I never stopped.

7) CRITICAL BENCH: What has been your favorite bodybuilding moment so far?

When I won the Jr. USA! That was really cool back in 2003.

In 2005 I placed 2nd to Jose Raymon at the USA's. I was really excited because he was someone I looked up to as I was coming up and to be in a call out with him was awesome. I think I might have even given him a run for his money but he won. Maybe someday I will finally beat him. Either way getting called out next to a guy who you thought a few years earlier was just amazing says a lot about how far I have come.

8) CRITICAL BENCH: What is your stance on steroids and supplements?

I think they are a big part of sport. It is unfortunate, but that's the way it is. When you are dealing with athletes trying to compete everyone is looking for an edge over the other guy. I also think it is a personal choice and don't think they should be used by anyone recreationally.

9) CRITICAL BENCH: How do you see the future of bodybuilding?

I think it is a cult sport. I don't think it will change much but will continue to grow just as it has. I don't think bodybuilding will ever be a mainstream sport though but I could care less personally.

10) CRITICAL BENCH: What types of responses do you get from different types of people when they walk past such a giant man beast like you?

I get the looks and stares. I love that people are always amazed when they see me with my shirt off and see that I'm all muscle. When I am at the board walk I have been known to cause a scene walking with shouts and yells. I love that though.

11) CRITICAL BENCH: What do you enjoy doing away from bodybuilding?

Dining out with my wife. I like to ski at the mountains and I love the Philadelphia eagles

12) CRITICAL BENCH: Tell us some inside secrets about yourself that people don't know about!

Interview With Bodybuilder Victor Delcampo I am having my first baby this September with my wife Teresa. When I am not dieting I eat like a pig and don't mind packing it on in the off season.

13) CRITICAL BENCH: That is awesome! Looks like things are going great for you! So far in your bodybuilding career what was the craziest thing you have ever seen?

The craziest thing I ever saw bodybuilding was when a guy was back stage and they called him to go out he was not ready and he went out on stage after hurrying to put his trunks on. He was told by head just to fix himself when he got on stage. When he looked down he noticed that his balls were hanging out in front of everyone. True story bumble bee tuna!

14) CRITICAL BENCH: What are your future goals?

I want to go pro, win the nationals and compete as a pro. I would love to one day make it to the Olympia.

15) CRITICAL BENCH: Victor, your career has been amazing and we wish you all the best ahead with everything. In closing is there anything you'd like to say?

I would like to thank my sponsors ABB and ON!

CRITICAL BENCH: VICTOR DELCAMPO EVERYONE!!
